DEAR FRIENDS,

Welcome to Varsity Vocals’ 30th season! After more than a quarter century of presenting the best student groups on the stage and in the studio, our enthusiasm for the art of a cappella is greater than ever.

Our tournaments have grown from a handful of events to the massive showcase they are today, currently featuring more than 730 groups and around 12,000 singers at over 85 events across North America and the United Kingdom.

Our original tournament inspired the hit movie, "Pitch Perfect," based on the nonfiction book documenting the true story of rival groups competing in our very own ICCA. The "Pitch Perfect" franchise remains the highest-grossing cinematic musical series of all time.

Despite the incredible growth and mainstream popularity we’ve enjoyed, our focus remains sharply on the promotion and development of the talent that crosses our stage. We believe competition fosters growth, as groups work together toward a specific goal and cultivate lifelong skills and relationships.

We provide insightful feedback from our highly qualified judges, but more importantly, our singers get to connect with a larger audience from across the country, learning from their peers and finding inspiration from other groups.

We have seen a cappella make great strides from where it began on our stage 30 years ago and can’t wait to see how our 2026 competitors continue to push the envelope. Committed to promoting our singers and energized by the incredible music they create, we look forward to another memorable season. Thank you for joining us!

Sincerely,

Amanda Newman

ABOUT VARSITY VOCALS

Since 1996, we have encouraged students worldwide to sing a cappella throughout their lives. Our programs include both the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA), and the International Championship of High School A Cappella (ICHSA). We also annually produce The Best of College A Cappella (BOCA) and The Best of High School A Cappella (BOHSAcompilation albums.

Our a cappella competitions give top-notch a cappella groups the opportunity to showcase their talents for an international audience and to take home valuable feedback from our qualified judges. This year, competing groups will appear in venues all around the world, offering their energetic musical performances for your enjoyment.

The college tournament, now in it's 30th year, takes place from January through April in nine regions across the country and around the world. Each region holds four or five Quarterfinals, and the top groups from each Quarterfinal advance to the Semifinal. The winning group at each Semifinal is named Regional Champion and advances to the ICCA Finals at The Town Hall in New York City on Saturday, April 25th.

The high school tournament is now in its 21st year. The winners of each of seven Semifinal rounds will advance to the ICHSA Finals at The Town Hall in New York City on Friday, April 24th.

ABOUT TONIGHT'S SHOW

The performance order was determined by random draw this afternoon and will be announced from stage.

Tonight’s performers will be evaluated on elements of their vocal and visual performance, which carry numerical weight. The highest and lowest score from the individual judges will be dropped for each group. Our judges may recognize exceptional performances with special awards as they see fit.

There will be a 15-minute intermission. After the final group has performed, a guest performer will entertain you while the scores are tabulated.

Because each group only has 10 minutes to perform, we ask you to keep your applause to an enthusiastic minimum between songs. Please feel welcome to applaud as much as you want after each group has finished its set.

Videotaping and non-flash photography for personal use is permitted during the concert, so long as you do not disrupt our performers or other patrons. Due to licensing regulations, we do not provide a video or audio recording of this performance.

DaCadence is known for bringing their vibrant colors, powerful sound, and energetic performances to the competitive stage. In 2023 and 2024, they were named Mid-Atlantic Champions and advanced to ICCA Finals. After a break from competition last year, they are excited to be back at ICCA to compete with all of the other amazing Mid-Atlantic groups. Fun fact: over half of DaFam are STEM majors! You can find them on Instagram @dacadence_umd and on Spotify for news about their upcoming album and other events.

Faux Paz is one of UMD's a cappella groups, performing mainly R&B and pop arrangements. The group took 1st place at the 2021 ICCA Finals and more recently won their 2025 Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal. Nowadays, Faux Paz travels to perform at nearby schools, continues to compete, and is in the process of recording another album to be released on all streaming platforms.

They are so excited to be performing in this year's competition and cannot wait to hear all of the other talented groups tonight!

The MelUDees is one of the University of Delaware’s premier all-gender a cappella groups, spreading good vibes and great music since 2006! Known for their creative arrangements and performances, The ‘Dees love bringing their unique sound to audiences both on and off campus. Whether they’re competing, performing at campus events, or singing for local fundraisers, The MelUDees bring passion, personality, and a whole lot of heart to everything they do. As they celebrate 20 years of making music together, they’re beyond excited to continue sharing their harmonies and joy with audiences everywhere.

The Notes of Ranvier is Johns Hopkins' premier community service and competitive a cappella group! Named after the unmyelinated sheaths in the nervous system that allow people to feel and sing, The Notes of Ranvier perform a variety of musical styles, ranging from pop to indie to R&B.

Off Track is an all-gender a cappella group from Towson University, founded in fall 2021. What began as a group of friends looking for a musical outlet evolved into a highly dedicated, award-winning group that has advanced to every round of the ICCA. The group continues to value fun and friendship and fosters a supportive and diverse environment for all of its members, regardless of their background Off Track was honored to represent the Mid-Atlantic at the 2025 ICCA Finals in New York City! They can’t wait for another fun-filled year!

Founded in 2025, Purple Reign is James Madison University’s first competitive a cappella ensemble. A newly established mixed group, they are dedicated to pushing creative and vocal boundaries through powerful storytelling, intricate arrangements, and a passion for excellence, both on and off the ICCA stage.

Ramifications is a premier, award-winning a cappella group from Virginia Commonwealth University. They were proud to win their 2025 ICCA Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal and are thrilled to be back for 2026! Founded in 2009 as The Compass Singers and renamed the Ramifications in 2010, the group has spent the past 14 years growing together and exploring contemporary a cappella across genres, from pop and rock to R&B and indie. Ramifications released their single, “Mania,” and album, Revelations, to all streaming platforms.

The Supernovas is Villanova’s oldest all-gender a cappella group. The group members come from a wide variety of undergraduate majors, including engineering, nursing, finance and more, but share a dedication to music. They love arranging, recording, and performing their own music together and you can find their latest work by searching “The Supernovas” wherever you stream music. They are proud that their performance of “California,” originally by Chappell Roan, was honored on Varsity Vocals’ 2025 BOCA album. In the past, The Supernovas have performed at benefit concerts, toured the Northeast with other a cappella groups, and represented their school across the country. In 2022, The Supernovas made Villanova history by earning the title of Mid-Atlantic Champions and advancing to ICCA Finals in New York City. Tonight, The Supernovas are proud to take the stage for their 12th ICCA season!

The Trentones is The College of New Jersey’s only competitive a cappella group, founded in 2002. The original founding group’s passion mirrors the current iteration’s drive for performing, arranging, and competing. Hailing from Ewing, N.J., The Trentones perform at all sorts of events on and off campus. They most recently performed at Trenton Thunder Ballpark and at the Philadelphia Flyers stadium. The Trentones have competed in several ICCA competitions over the years, advancing to Semifinals and winning awards for Outstanding Soloist, Outstanding Arrangement, and Outstanding Choreography in 2019, 2024, and 2024, respectively. They most recently placed 3rd at last year’s Mid-Atlantic Semifinal and won Outstanding Vocal Percussion along the way. The Trentones are eager to share the ICCA experience with the group’s newest members and can’t wait to see what the future holds! This year's set encapsulates the feeling of anxiety, questioning self-worth, and rampant internal monologues as the group endeavors to conquer their weaknesses. “Did I make the right decision? Am I supposed to be here? When faced with adversity, can I overcome it? Am I capable?”
